Sacramento River Fishing in Anderson California
The Sacramento River salmon season has been going great since the opener on July 16th with the salmon run now building everyday here in mid August. Now is the time anglers will start to see improved salmon fishing as the bulk of this years salmon will make their way into the upper salmon fishing grounds. Anglers are scoring on above average king salmon to 30 pounds drifting or back bouncing cured roe or backtrolling sardine wrapped "old style" kwikfish plugs. These "old style" kwikfish have a swim that the Sacramento River king salmon like. These kwikfish are triggering savage strikes as these large king salmon attempt to destroy these lures as they enter the king salmon's territory. Anglers focusing their fishing efforts downriver of the Barge Hole are seeing several king salmon hook ups a day as reported by Sacramento River salmon fishing guide Dave Jacobs.
"I have been seeing new fresh king salmon moving through and rolling daily as these king salmon navigate through over one hundred miles of inhospitable warm water. These kings are moving day and night non stop until they get relief from the cold 57 degree waters we are fishing here south of the Barge Hole," Jacob's reports.
As you can see from the variety of salmon photos posted here in this report there is no problem going out and hauling in one of these Sacramento River monster salmon. Expect this run to build daily through all of August and the entire month of September. Overall boat pressure has been light but has been increasing everyday now. Flows are steady at 8700 cfs but boaters should be prepared for lower river releases in the coming weeks.
