Meateater On The Sacramento River!

Meateater host Ryan “Cal” Callaghan joins Sacramento River salmon fishing guide Dave Jacobs for a morning of salmon fishing to discuss the health and future of the Sacramento River watershed and its beloved king salmon. The Meateater crew captured some of the the most beautiful scenery and wildlife that the Sacramento River has to offer including a exciting jet boat tour through the famous Sacramento River canyon and China rapids!
Dave and Ryan also took some time to fish for the Sacramento River Fall run kings and boxed Ryan’s salmon limit quickly. The entire Sacramento River salmon fishing sections are now open and Dave Jacobs Professional Guide Service continues to take reservations for any sized group to come experience what the Meateater crew fished anytime in August,September and October. Sacramento River Salmon Season Opens July 16, 2021

The 2021 Sacramento and Feather River salmon fishing season has been determined and it's now official. The Sacramento and Feather River’s will open on the morning of July 16, 2021 and remain open for a full salmon fishing season. The Sacramento River will open 150 below the Sycamore Boat launch located just below the Red Bluff Diversion Dam on July 16, 2021.

Well the time has finally run out for this seasons reopening of the Sacramento River salmon fishing. The Sacramento river is poised to open this Friday July 16th. Sardine wrapped “old style” Kwikfish will be ready to be deployed to the bottom of the Sacramento Rivers best salmon runs below the Red Bluff Diversion Dam precisely one hour before sunrise at 4:53am to be exact. You can guarantee many anxious anglers will arrive days before the opener scouting the Sacramento rivers many different salmon holes in search of fresh migrating king salmon. This run of salmon begins in mid July and will build peak and wind down through mid to late October. Water conditions will be challenging to say the least and salmon fishing pressure should be high. Low river flows will ultimately expose many in river obstructions like submerged trees and shallow gravel/sand bars extreme concentration and expert boat operations will be imperative to avoid costly accidents.

As I have been sharing with many for a couple of months now, the commercial and sport fishing fleet from Santa Cruz to the Golden Gate have been reporting great daily catches of large, very larg California king salmon. Undoubtedly king salmon preparing to return to the Central Valley river system the mighty Sacramento River and all of its tributaries.

I have been fortunate to have been salmon fishing for more than a month now readying our very best “old style” Kwikfish…all finely tuned and proven king salmon catchers over the last month. These old Kwikfish may be tarnished, bloodied and scratched up by massive king salmon bites on the world famous Kenai peninsulas rivers this past month… I assure you…these Kwikfish are ready for whatever the Sacramento River has to offer us this week and the coming months. Reports of large 40 plus pound king salmon has been rampant in the last two weeks out of the Golden Gate and I have been preparing our gear with new line and heavy 40 pound leaders a must.

Opening day on the Sacramento River is here…join us on California’s home to its king salmon state record…a huge 88 pound king salmon…caught in the very same river with the same salmon fishing techniques we use today. Come experience the great salmon catching experience on the Sacramento River with Dave Jacobs Professional Guide Service…”we have been perfecting Sacramento River salmon fishing since 1985!”

Come be a part of Northern California’s most celebrated and historic salmon experience known as the Sacramento River with the regions top guides, Dave Jacobs Professional Guide Service. We are available seven days a week, fully guided Sacramento River salmon fishing charters for any sized group, be it large or small. Call guide Dave Jacobs at (530)646-9110 today! Salmon Fishing On The Sacramento River

The upper reaches of the Sacramento River above the Red Bluff Diversion Dam will open on August 1, 2021 up through the Barge Hole to the Deschutes Bridge in Anderson California. This years commercial ocean salmon season has been curtailed immensely and will not open until late June in hopes of allowing a larger group of large adult Sacramento River king salmon to travel upriver this year. This years ocean abundance predictions have come in just shy of 300,000 salmon for 2021.

Sacramento River Late Fall King Salmon!

With the Fall Sacramento River salmon season set, Sacramento Salmon Fishing Guide Dave Jacobs is now booking our entire season, July, August, September, October, November and December. The salmon season will gradually build in mid July and salmon numbers will steadily increase daily through August.

Mid to late August and all of September will see the largest numbers of king salmon arriver in the Sacramento River in and around Woodson Bridge near Corning California. October will mark the top spawning month with a large amount of king salmon making their way through the famous Barge Hole near Cottonwood California and home of the Coleman National Fish Hatchery. As the Fall salmon season begins to wind down in late October anglers will still fish for king salmon over on the Feather River through the end of October and the late Fall Sacramento River salmon season starts.
